Roeliff Jansen Kill

oil on board
currently at the Olive Free Library, West Shokan, NY.

The Roeliff Jansen Kill is a major tributary to the Hudson River.  It was the traditional boundary between the Native American Mahican tribe and the Wappinger tribe.

I'd never seen this gorgeous creek before, but my husband had.  One day, we took a drive to Red Hook, in Dutchess County, and I took a bunch of photos from the roadside.  I decided on this composition which didn't require much editing. I can't wait to go there again, maybe for plein air.
