Easton Arts Council

I'm so excited! This morning I checked my emails and found out that the painting I did
called "Mountain Rest", above, has been selected for inclusion in a juried art show sponsored by the Easton Arts Council in Easton CT!

I'm thrilled to be included.  However, I'm not sure why I didn't google the directions to Easton before I submitted the piece.  It's a 2.5 hr ride for me!  I have to bring the painting there this Saturday and there's a reception on May 25th and I have to pick it up if it doesn't sell on June 15th.  (my 39th wedding anniversary and the opening day of bass season, so my DH will be fishing and not going on a joy ride celebrating the anniversary in Easton that day!   Oh well, I think I can handle it!)

I may have to skip the reception, because that's Memorial Day weekend and I don't relish the idea of traveling on holiday weekends.  Not when I can stay home and listen to the peepers or maybe the 17 yr. cicadas if they've come out of the ground by then! LOL!

Echo Notch

Echo Notch
11" x 14"
Oil on canvas
So many times I've passed by these two barns on my way through West Kill NY on Beech Ridge Rd.  I've admired them and the notch beyond during every season.  I've taken many photos.  Finally a month ago, I put my own interpretation on the photos and came up with this overcast version of this bucolic scene.
The notch reminds me of our own Wagon Wheel Notch in Samsonville.  In this case, it's called Echo Notch.  It's currently framed in a gold plein air frame.

There's a bluebird in my heart

8" x 10"
Oil on panel
"there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I'm too tough for him,
I say, stay in there, I'm not going
to let anybody see
there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I pour whiskey on him and inhale
cigarette smoke
and the whores and the bartenders
and the grocery clerks
never know that
in there.

there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I'm too tough for him,
I say,
stay down, do you want to mess
me up?
you want to screw up the
you want to blow my book sales in
there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I'm too clever, I only let him out
at night sometimes
when everybody's asleep.
I say, I know that you're there,
so don't be
then I put him back,
but he's singing a little
in there, I haven't quite let him
and we sleep together like
with our
secret pact
and it's nice enough to
make a man
weep, but I don't
weep, do
by Charles Bukowski
This blue boy was on my garden fence post last year. Usually, I don't get good photos of birds. They fly away before I can get the camera focused.  I decided to paint him like he posed for a portrait. It was a fun painting to do.  I love birds.
