Pemaquid Point, Maine

Pemaquid Point, Maine
5" x 7"
oil on board
framed in black
currently on display at Studio 91, Kingston, NY
$75.
SOLD

We took a trip to Maine the first week in September and stayed near Boothbay Harbor.  We drove out to Pemaquid Point one day and visited the lighthouse.  That provided inspiration for another painting for another day!  I set up my homemade pochade box and started doing this small painting of the point. It was a breezy day and I had to hold onto my materials with one hand and paint with the other. My mean little poodle was sleeping next to me in her bed and people kept coming over to see what I was painting. That is, until Ginger started growling at them!  One way to keep onlookers away!

I started painting in plein air this summer.  I even built myself a pochade box which is a portable, lightweight painting box or sketch box.  I bought a tripod to attach the box to and the entire unit is feather light! Anyway, my friend, Linda, and I have been painting along some local back roads.  I sold two of them right away and didn't get a chance to post photos!  I found I must do a small painting when outside. So far a 5 x 7 is best. The light changes quickly and the shadows change and after two hrs. we're tired and head home.

McDaniel Barn, Shady NY

McDaniel Barn
12" x 16"
Oil on board
SOLD

This beautiful road and barn are located in Shady NY on McDaniel Rd.  Of course, in real life, the road is paved and much wider. I wanted to portray it the way it was back in the day. My sister-in-law's family had a boarding house just beyond.  I painted this landscape while taking a class with Paul Abrams.

Dividing Weir

The colors seem to be a little more intense in this photo than they are in life. I painted this scene of the dividing weir last fall. I loved the way the light was shining through the arches of the bridge. Painted on gessoed canvas board 8" x 10".

ASK Open Studio Tour

I just found out that I'm going to have a few paintings hanging in a gallery tour of Kingston on October 2.  Here's a link to the site where I'll be. http://askforarts.org/studiotour/2010/studio91.html

I have a few landscapes to take and probably one from my shore birds series.  Bolstering my confidence is my painting coach, Judith Boggess! She'll be exhibiting at this site for a month.  Not sure how long my paintings will be there, but it's fun to be included!  Will post photos later, gotta get some framing done.
